The Wisdom in Sorrow

In the depths of my distress,
I’ve found something strange
That a heart weighed down with sorrow can still be stirred,
That sorrow can give birth to joy.
Perhaps, after all…
pain is a discipline
one we must all learn to embrace.

So I haven’t fled from my sorrows;
I’ve dined with them.
I’ve listened to them.
I’ve learned from them.

For within godly sorrow lies wisdom
a wisdom few are willing to seek,
for she is veiled in pain
and wrapped in the discipline too many refuse to endure.
