Colossians 3:15 “Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful.”
In times when the world seems utterly against us, when the storms of life rage so fiercely that we can barely hear ourselves think, God calls us to His peace. This peace becomes our anchor. The more we meditate on the word anchor, the deeper our understanding of what it truly means to let the peace of God steady and sustain us.
Ships engage their anchors when they need to stop or hold their position, preventing them from being carried away by waves and currents. Without an anchor, or a dynamic positioning system, a ship is far more likely to drift off course, especially in strong winds or rough waters. The anchor, typically made of heavy metal, is designed to dig into the seabed, creating resistance that stabilizes the vessel. Because of its critical role in maritime safety, every ship, including small boats and yachts, is required to have at least one.
Now that you understand the meaning of an anchor, can you imagine facing life’s storms without the peace of God holding you steady? Without His word rising against the winds? A man without God’s peace is easily tossed by every trial and storm, with nothing to keep him stable.
The peace of God is beyond human understanding; it makes no sense to the world. The world cannot understand how you can laugh in the face of intense adversity, how you can hold on to joy in the midst of chaos, how you can trust God for the fruit of the womb and still overflow with hope, how you can be waiting on Him yet remain steadfast in a posture of faith and expectation.
Philippians 4:7 says “And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” .
Even with willpower and resilience, the man without God will still crumble like a pack of cards under the very circumstances the man with God stood tall. Jesus said “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.” – John 14:27.
The peace of God is not passive, it is an active force guarding your heart and mind like a fortress. It is the assurance that, no matter how fierce the storm, you are held securely in God’s hands. When you choose to let His peace rule in your heart, you are choosing stability over chaos, faith over fear, and trust over anxiety.
So, when the waves rise and the winds howl, drop your anchor. Let the peace of God dig deep into the foundation of His promises. Refuse to be moved by circumstances, knowing that His peace is stronger than any storm. And as you remain anchored in Him, you will find that no matter what comes your way, you are unshaken, steadfast, immovable, and at rest in the everlasting arms of the Prince of Peace.
