Mind God’s business, and He will mind yours. As you focus on doing God’s work, He will not only empower you but also support you in ways beyond your imagination. You will see the fruits of your labor in many forms, beginning with the conversion of souls to God. Just as Jonah’s change of heart led to the revival of Nineveh (Jonah 3:4, 3:6-10), your commitment to God’s mission can bring about transformation in those around you, and there’s nothing more encouraging than witnessing the growth of those you’ve ministered to in God.
God is just and a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. Scripture says a laborer is deserving of his wages. God will ensure that all you need for life and godliness is supplied. Some may receive long-awaited desires, and some may have their health restored. All these things fall under the blessings that God adds to those who seek Him. Israel’s obedience during Haggai’s time restored their blessings (Haggai 1:12-13, 2:6-7, 2:18-19). So, when you begin to obey, do not be discouraged by the small steps or limited results. These are building up to something great (Zechariah 4:10).
Serving God Emboldens Us
Serving God faithfully can embolden us to make bold requests of God, as in the case of Hezekiah, who had the courage to ask God to spare his life because of his faithfulness. (2 Kings 20:1-6). Similarly, Nehemiah had the confidence to ask God not to forget his service, knowing that he had touched God’s heart through his acts of service. (Nehemiah 5:19, 13:14).
This is not to say that our good works are the reason we can approach God. When Scripture tells us to come boldly before the throne of grace to obtain mercy and find help in our time of need, it doesn’t set a condition. Anyone who humbly approaches God, He will listen to. As Scripture says, ‘A broken and contrite heart God will not despise’. (Psalm 51:17).
This is also not to imply that because we serve God, we can make demands of Him. The more we serve God, the more we understand Him and grow to care more about serving Him than what we can get from Him. We learn from righteous Job that our righteous acts are like filthy rags and do not qualify us for much before God. Jesus Christ is our righteousness and the reason we can come boldly before God. However, we cannot deny the fact that a faithful servant is more likely to be bold in asking for mercy, grace, or whatever is needed than an unfaithful servant.
As you faithfully seek His will, you’ll find that God’s blessings often go beyond your expectations. The reward isn’t always material, but the peace, joy, and fulfillment that come from walking in His purpose are worth far more. So, keep pressing forward, even when the steps seem small or the progress slow. God sees your faithfulness, and He will continue to work in and through you, doing more than you can ask or imagine.
