Day 28 | What Legacy are You Leaving for Future Generations? War or Peace?

When David heard about it, he declared, “I vow by the LORD that I and my kingdom are forever innocent of this crime against Abner son of Ner. Joab and his family are the guilty ones. May the family of Joab be cursed in every generation with a man who has open sores or leprosy or who walks on crutches or dies by the sword or begs for food!”

Today’s message is simple: live your life with a sense of responsibility, thinking about the generations that will come after you. Do not live carelessly, like someone who has nothing to lose – like a “one man Mopol”.

Before you make any decision, ask yourself how it will affect your children and the generations that follow. If the covenant God made with Abraham extended to every generation that came from him, how much more could a connection with the devil affect your descendants?

Ephesians 5:15-16 says, “So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days”.

You came from someone, and others will come from you. Think about this: if you are in business, you can probably imagine the frustration of a new CEO stepping into a company only to find it buried in debt because of the decisions of the person before them.

Or picture finding the perfect house after months of searching, paying the rent, and moving in, only to discover that the previous tenant bypassed the electricity meter and left behind a pile of unpaid bills. PHCN shows up, insisting you pay the debt, even though you had nothing to do with it.
Or imagine moving into your hostel room, only to find it in bad condition, with dirty floors, cracked walls, and repairs that need immediate attention.

This is similar to what your children might face if they have to deal with the consequences of sins you allowed, giving the devil a foothold in your family.

You may have already experienced this in your own life, despite the fact that you are a tongue-taking, spirit-filled believer, anointed to the teeth!

Perhaps there are things from your family’s past, decisions made decades ago, that have affected you, even though you had no part in them. These sins or sinful commitments often seem to demand accountability, even from those who are innocent. What’s even more disheartening is that people often don’t realize the full extent of what they’re dealing with until some damage has already been done.

That is why it is important to know the truth of God’s Word in Ezekiel 18:20, which says:

“The person who sins is the one who will die. The child will not be punished for the parent’s sins, and the parent will not be punished for the child’s sins. Righteous people will be rewarded for their own righteous behavior, and wicked people will be punished for their own wickedness.”

Meditate on this scripture, pray over it, and repent where you need to. If you are the child facing a negative pattern in your family, stand on the truth of God’s Word. Declare that the cycle ends with you and that this promise of personal accountability will manifest in your life.
