Then I heard the Lord asking, “Whom should I send as a messenger to this people Who will go for us?” I said, “Here I am. Send me.” (Isaiah 6:8)
Today is the perfect day to take the first step toward fulfilling your God-given assignment. It may not make sense at first, and that’s okay. It doesn’t have to. Trying to figure it all out before taking that step is often a sign of not fully trusting God.
Consider Abraham
“The Lord had said to Abram, ‘Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you.’” (Genesis 12:1).
He had no clue where God was leading him, yet he obeyed.
Think about Isaiah
When God asked, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” Isaiah didn’t know the cost of being sent to a stiff-necked people. Yet, he boldly responded, “Here am I. Send me.” (Isaiah 6:8).
God wants that same level of trust from us. He calls us to step out, not because we fully understand the path ahead, but because we trust Him like a child trusts their father.
Childlike Trust
My sons don’t worry about breakfast, lunch, or dinner. When we’re heading out, they don’t think about how we’ll get there. Their confidence lies in knowing that Dad and Mom are in charge, and that’s enough for them.
This is the kind of trust God desires from us. He wants us to rely on Him completely, knowing that He will guide, provide, and sustain us as we step out in obedience.
The Legacy of Obedience
The reason we celebrate Abraham and Isaiah today is because they yielded themselves as vessels for God’s use. They didn’t have all the answers, but they obeyed.
I can relate. Even as I write this, I don’t fully trust in my own ability to complete the assignment God has given me. I’ve come up with excuses:
- “Why not wait until January 1, so it flows with the start of a new year?”
- “Why not wait until my son resumes school, so I’ll have more time?”
- “Why not wait until I’ve got my act together?”
So many “whys.”
But here’s the truth: I don’t trust in myself to finish this assignment, I know I can’t. My past accomplishments don’t inspire much confidence.
Does this make me feel good about myself? Certainly not.
But I trust in God who sent me far more than I trust in myself.
God’s Strength in Our Weakness
Paul’s words encourage me daily:
“But he said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.” (2 Corinthians 12:9).
I am learning to rely on God’s grace and strength, not my own abilities. And today, I encourage you to do the same.
Take the First Step Today
Don’t wait until everything feels perfect or until you feel qualified. Start now. Begin that assignment, that project, or that business idea today. Trust God to carry you through, so that at the end of 365 days, we can look back and say, “Indeed, God carried me.”
Meditative Declaration
As you go about your day, declare these words with faith:
“Lord Jesus, Here I am, send me.”
