In Genesis 1:2, God saw a situation. He noticed that the earth was formless, empty and dark. You can say he noticed there wasn’t much to the earth, just like you might have noticed it seems like there currently isn’t much to you, like many things aren’t working out, like you have been circling around one situation for the longest time, so many unanswered prayers, many long standing promises, prophecies upon prophecies going unfulfilled and your life seemingly ebbing away.
Do something Now
Wake up! don’t get carried away by what’s not working, do something about it now.
In Genesis 1:2, God did something about the situation He noticed, He didn’t read about the situation, speculate about it or stop at just identifying the situation, He spoke to the situation.
He commanded what He wanted to see to appear and it did! He created something new.
Put your tongue to use
You see, you can study your bible in and out, speak in tongues 72 hours at a stretch, fast for 40 days but if you don’t by the Holy Spirit of God actually address the situation with God’s word specifically targeted at the situation at hand, it would seem as though your prayers, study and spiritual exercises aren’t producing any fruit. You would simply be charging up yourself without putting all those charges to use. The ultimate reason why everyone charges their devices is to put it to use. Imagine charging your device for a work and leaving it on your desk or turning it off, the charges would still remain in the device for some time, but if you don’t pick it up to make use of it, of what use was the charging? Simply to have it depleted and recharged again, with no plan to use the device?
Esther, Mordecai and the people of Israel fasted for three days and THEN Esther went out to meet with the King, she said to Mordecai; “if I perish I perish”. Imagine if they simply fasted and prayed but Esther never went out to meet the King? (Esther 4:15-16).
Contend until you see something New
As God created and filled up the heavens and the earth, He examined the works of His hands until He determined they were now good. As you create a new life with your words, examine the situation and don’t stop speaking until you see it is now good, don’t stop speaking until you see answers to your prayers, contend until you see a manifestation of God’s promises in your life. Elijah was a man with like passions as you, he had blood flowing through his veins like you do, he was a man through and true. Yet he prayed earnestly and the heavens gave rain, the earth produced its crops. (James 5:17). The back story of this scripture is that Elijah prayed seven good times before his servant told him there was a sign of rain! I wonder what would have happened if he stopped at the 3rd time or 6th time of prayer. 1 Kings 18:41-46.
Faith as small as Mustard Seed
It takes faith to activate the creative dimension in us. It takes faith to call forth things that currently don’t exist as though they did. (Hebrews 11:1-2). This is the kind of faith the heroes of faith, such as Abraham, David, Sarah, Abel, Jacob, Noah, Rahab, and many others we celebrate had that ensured they took delivery of God’s promises to them.
Today, God wants you to go a step further, to move beyond identifying the situation in your life to speaking to the Mountain.
If you have ever seen a mustard seed, you know it is one of the tiniest seeds we have out there yet Jesus said if you have faith as a mustard seed you would speak to that mountain to be removed and it will move and NOTHING WILL BE IMPOSSIBLE to you. (Matthew 17:20).
Come Up Higher
God’s best is that you come up higher in him, that you partner directly with the Holy Spirit rather than going through His other children for your every need. The Holy Spirit in you is the same Holy Spirit in them. The only difference is that He is so magnified in their lives, so active that their words have become weighty by reason of His power at work in them.
It is the spirit that raised Christ from the dead that dwells inside you. He was powerful then and is still powerful now. Let Him pray through and for you, this is why God generously gave Him to you, He is a sign of God’s love, a seal upon your heart bearing witness that you are God’s, a guarantee of the eternal life God promised to you. (2 Corinthians 1:22).
Now, what?
Finally, God’s attitude towards the needs he recognized in the heavens and the earth continued for six days.
- He identified a need
- He solved the problem by speaking
All through Genesis chapter 1, You see words like “and God said” “and there was”.
What are you seeing in your life today that you know clearly contradict God’s promises to you?
How are you responding to what you have seen?
What are you commanding into your life today?
Speak to that mountain the name of Jesus Christ (Philippians 2:9, John 16:23-24)
May God’s grace that is able to keep you work in you to do and become all He has purposed in His heart for you.
