“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” (Jeremiah 1:5)
Mama, congratulations!
There’s a miracle growing inside you, a whole human, carrying destiny, purpose, and God’s intentional design. And while the world might say, “Let’s wait until the baby is born,” we know better. Life begins at conception, and from that very moment, your child can hear, receive, and respond to the words you speak over them.
Let this settle in your heart:
Anything that has life in it can hear.
And your baby is no exception.
From the moment that life begins in your womb, your voice becomes one of the most powerful tools to shape that life. Your words, yes, your everyday declarations, prayers, scriptures, and songs, become the wings your baby rides on, the vehicle that transports them into purpose, and the early environment of faith they are bathed in.
Science Says… But Faith Says More
Medical science tells us that babies begin to hear sounds from as early as 15–20 weeks. Beautiful, right? But as believers, we go deeper. We know that God’s design is far more profound than science can explain. If God already knew your child before forming him in your womb (Jeremiah 1:5), then surely, He has wired that child to begin receiving long before ears can even function.
So don’t wait.
Pick up your Bible and read to your baby.
Lay hands on your belly and declare the Word.
Sing psalms. Speak blessings.
Create a spiritual atmosphere where that child is introduced to the presence of God, even before they open their eyes to the light of this world.
Dedicate Them Before Delivery
In 1 Samuel 1:11, we read about Hannah who, long before Samuel was conceived, vowed him to the Lord. She said, “O Lord of hosts, if You will indeed look on the affliction of Your maidservant and remember me… then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life.”
She didn’t wait till delivery day. Her faith-led vow came first, and God honored it.
Just like Hannah, you can dedicate your child to God before he or she is born. Begin to partner with Heaven concerning this precious life. Say things like:
- “You will know the Lord early.”
- “You are set apart for God’s glory.”
- “You will walk in divine health and wisdom.”
- “You will love righteousness and hate wickedness.”
Ask God for the Name
One of the most profound acts of surrender is to ask God what He already calls your child. Even if you don’t hear the name audibly or in a dream, your heart can be at peace knowing you’ve acknowledged the Father’s role in naming the child. And even if you go on to pick a name yourself, you’ve already aligned with Heaven’s posture, seeking God’s heart first.
Remember what God said to Isaiah:
“I have summoned you by name; you are mine.” (Isaiah 43:1)
This tells us that names are not random to God. They are tied to identity, destiny, and calling.
So mama, speak life.
Wrap that child in faith.
Clothe them in the Word.
Let every heartbeat be accompanied by a declaration of purpose.
And when fear or doubt tries to creep in, remind yourself:
“This child is known, loved, and called by God, right from the womb.”
It’s Never Too Early: Speak Life Over Your Future Children
And for those of you who haven’t even conceived yet, let me remind you of this profound truth: You don’t have to wait until you’re pregnant or start having children to speak words of life.
All the children you will ever conceive, whether one or many, are already in your future. Before you take in the first one, God already knew them, planned for them, and purposefully allocated them to you. Your future children are not a surprise to God. In fact, they’ve been written into your story long before your pregnancy test ever turns positive.
I personally believe that not only are we given our own individual destinies, but God also allots us children; destinies that are tied to us, even before we can physically see them. Just like how God knew the prophet Jeremiah before he was formed (Jeremiah 1:5), God knows the children He has purposed for you, whether they are in the womb today or not yet conceived.
Whether we see these children manifest in the physical realm depends largely on how we partner with God in faith. Speak life over the children that are to come. Pray for their destinies, even before you carry them. Speak blessings, declare promises, and trust that God is faithful to bring those children into your life at the appointed time.
